The exact definition of the term “DFM” varies widely in the industry. Accordingly, the breadth of standard DFM parameters defined strongly relates to our DFM Definition and the DFM insertion points in our DFM Reference Flow. The diagram below classifies the areas of implementation, analysis, optimization and verification where a standardized set of DFM parameters will be defined. The DFM Dictionary will cover the major factors for Process Limited Yield (PLY) which is the product of multiple yield limiters and the Circuit Limited Yield (CLY) which is the result of the widening variability of circuit parameters. The business objective of DFM is to improve product profitability and manufacturing predictability using by using DFM techniques to produce an Efficient Design.

3 DFMC Purpose Statment

The purpose of the Design for Manufacturability Coalition (DFMC) is to specify open-standards for software interfaces between EDA software tools and manufacturing software. The specification includes: (1) Standard terminology definitions, semantics and exchange formats for relevant manufacturing information (2) Standard software application program interfaces (API) for models describing different manufacturing processes, yield mechanisms and circuit behaviors.

The purpose of the DFMC excludes specifying any models, methods, algorithms, techniques or EDA software tools except to the extent embodied in (1) or (2), and further excludes specifying any hardware.
